Hiring Buyer for a $ 40 bn MNC for their EPC Mining Project at South East England

Experience:          Over 8 yrs experience in Metals & Mining Industry Qualification:                         A diploma / degree in Mechanical Engineering

Qualification Requirement
  • Relevant membership of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (MCIPS), or suitably qualified with relevant experience or working towards Professional Qualifications.
  • Recognition of sound experience in place of formal qualifications is acceptable.
  • Computer literate and familiar with Microsoft Office packages including database applications.
  • Basic Safety Requirements:
  • Basic Safety Induction and experience of working in a safety conscious environment
Basic Experience:
 
8+ years of Relevant experience in buying mining & project related equipment and supplies, gained within the international Mining service industry.

Job Description
Definition:
  • Reporting to the Procurement Team Leader, the role of the Buyer is to provide efficient procurement of material and services under direction from the appropriate management including shipboard management, within the company's Supply Chain Management systems, in conjunction with all related departments within the organisation.
  • The Buyer shall operate in liaison with the Procurement Team Leader/Vessel Managers for all procurement activities related to vendor and subcontractor supply.
  • Close liaison is also required with all departments for production and monitoring of Purchase Order documentation.
  • The Buyer is responsible for ensuring that the client selects the most appropriate goods and services on the basis of price, quality, delivery times and services support.
  • The post-holder shall liaise with all relevant departments for all purchasing and procurement activities related to vendors and sub-contractor suppliers.
  • The post-holder shall engage with the Supply Chain Advisor(s) with regard to implementation of strategic sourcing strategy with the client's critical supplier network.
Responsibilities 
The responsibilities of the Buyer include, but are not limited to:
  • Purchasing & expediting authorised requisitions for stores, spares, equipment and services in a cost effective manner and maintaining a Purchase Order Log through the company Procurement system.
  • Obtaining approval for purchases of goods and services in line with the company approval matrix, preparing a bid table where necessary for requirements that have been tendered in the marketplace.
  • Selecting suppliers that fulfill the required specification, reviewing adherence to the requisitioned requirements, including price, availability and other criteria identified and communicated by the originator, liaising with the originator where clarification or confirmation is required.
  • Ensuring that the vendor is aware of any special requirements in respect of shipment/handling of hazardous goods
  • Monitoring progress of requisitioned goods and expediting outstanding orders.
  • Processing when required, the return of goods from vessels and liaising with the supplier and internal/external logistics to ensure that return are closed out effectively.
  • Reviewing the initial authorization and coding of invoices as required.
  • Ensuring adherence to and updating as required, the preferred supplier & approved Vendor lists.
Special Duties
  • The Buyer is a member of the Emergency Response Team.

Qualification:                         A diploma / degree in Mechanical Engineering
Purpose / Role

  • Ensure all deliverables related to packages, equipment, materials and documentation are met or improved upon as per project schedule.
  • Co-ordination of deliverables from both supplier organisations and internal disciplines. Understand and have the ability to analyse and challenge manufacturing production schedules relating to packages, equipment and material items.

Key aims and objectives

  • Achieve on time delivery of packages, equipment and material items as well as project documentation, as a minimum;
  • Continually strive for improvement of all project deliverables;
  • Ensure all expediting activities fully comply with both company's Code of Business Conduct and Supply Chain Code of Business Conduct;
  • Manage appropriate relationships with suppliers and key stakeholders.

Prime responsibilities and duties

  • Achieve on time delivery of packages, equipment and material items;
  • Assist with the development of expediting strategies and plans, as appropriate;
  • Ensure key document deliverables are submitted and approved within the required timescale;
  • Develop good working relationships with suppliers;
  • Obtain supplier reports, analyse and challenge prior to project distribution;
  • Ensure all project stakeholders are aware of latest expediting information with respect to project deliverables;
  • Update project reporting systems and tools with latest information;
  • Maintain and produce project specific expediting reports;
  • Provide project specific information for input to Project Management Reporting;
  • Work closely with Quality Control and Material Controllers to ensure purchase orders are released, shipped and receipted in a timely manner;
  • Promote Health, Safety, Security and Environment within the Supply Chain.

Allied occasional duties
  • Deputise for Senior Expeditor as required;
  • Carry out Field Expediting visits; where appropriate
  • Attend kick-off meetings as requested.
