Hiring Solaris SME/Architect 10-15 yrs experience


Solaris/AIX Architect :
Enterprise Engineering is looking for a Unix Engineer with AIX and Solaris experience :
The Unix Engineer position will be reporting to the Manager for Enterprise Platform Services (EPS) Client and Platform Engineering Services (CaPES) Unix Engineering Services (UES)

UES is a team within Client and Platform Engineering Services (CaPES), a part of Enterprise Engineering. UES plans, designs, architects solutions for the system software and hardware infrastructure for Unix systems including AIX and Solaris platforms. This position is located in Pasadena.

Enterprise Engineering is part of Service Delivery, a group of 2,200+ plus people who provide 24 hour year round infrastructure management, systems monitoring and operational support to over 2,500 applications, millions of members and the 160,000 staff that constitute Kaiser Permanente's medical groups and business partners.

There are more than 400 medical offices, hospitals and administrative facilities. We make about 2,100 changes a month to our applications, systems and networks, so meeting service level commitments is a big piece of the challenge. As in the practice of medicine, our data centers at Kaiser Permanente are a continuous operation that never stops.

Unix Engineering Services plans, designs, configures and provides tier III support for our infrastructure which consists of  2,500 + AIX and Solaris server images. Operationally this includes responsibilities covering release, change, problem and configuration management working within an ITIL process framework and Plan-Build-Run model.

The EPS mission is to ensure that our customers’ mission-critical software and systems are of the highest quality, reliability and serviceability. A central part of our mission is to acquire, develop and promote the very best in software engineering practices, supported and developed using quality standards and performance metrics.

Job Responsibilities
  • Maintain the highest level of availability, reliability and performance for AIX /Solaris and associated components
  • Plan, develop and articulate the strategies/content for AIX/Solaris systems, system software lifecycle, software asset management, EPS product/services and ongoing server cost reduction programs
  • Advanced Unix Scripting Skills
  • Work with design teams to translate high level business requirements into technical designs and practical engineering solutions. Review business requirements documents and ensure that performance and capacity requirements are accounted for. Translate customer requirements into a consistent terminology that can be used to direct service performance/capacity management activities
  • Understand current and future tools, technologies, and techniques and leverage their use to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Conducting advanced research, and identify product/service innovations
  • Conduct and participate in meetings, reviews and process improvement activities
  • Compile and report metrics for management
  • Internal escalation point for the incident/problem management space
  • Advocate and foster CaPES engineering principles and best practices
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience plus a minimum of ten years technical experience of AIX in a large complex environment.
  • Advocate and foster CaPES engineering principles and best practices 
  • Candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Extensive working knowledge in a large and complex environment is required. This must include current  IBM AIX and SUN Solaris hardware
  • Knowledge of IBM AIX  including HMC configurations, Lpar configurations, VIO servers, Micro-Partitioning, NIM, and AIX OS level 5.3
  • Extensive working knowledge of HACMP clusters.
  • Knowledge of Veritas Volume Manager and VFS.
  • Knowledge of Veritas Cluster System.
  • Experience in the following is desirable: SUN Disk Suite, Veritas Netbackup
  • System configuration, Tuning and Analysis
  • Work with Tier III customer support in escalated customer support issues.
  • Document Systems architecture and design.
  • Test, Certify, Pilot and Introduction of advance technology with related server platforms.

Skills Required
 
To qualify you should be at advance level, professional experienced with UNIX and in all aspects of the primary product, program or technology. Your ability should encompass the full knowledge required within the specialty area, ability to function independently with minimal oversight and direction. May instruct and guide lower level technical professionals. 

Minimum Work Experience:

A minimum of 10+ years in the IT environment with hands-on UNIX (AIX, Solaris, Linux).B.S or A.S Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience is preferred. Technical project implementation and good interfacing skills with non-technical users. Proficiency with UNIX kernels, Networking, Web, UNIX Scripting, Perl Programming, hardware configuration, support and maintenance, network protocols, system security, various commercial UNIX application.  Honorable level of understanding of RS/6000, SUN and AIX/Solaris/Linux Operating environment, EMC and IBM Shark Storage Devices, Tape Drives, NIMMS, and related UNIX technologies.  Good working knowledge of Oracle, Sybase, UDB, Web application, Java, Web sphere, IHS, Network Dispatcher, HACMP, NIS, DNS, NFS, Volume Manager and other related UNIX tools.
